One of the greatest challenges the country faces is providing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services that conserves and even enhances the environmental scenic, historic and community resources that are so vital to our way of life.

The most recent adopted book is called “A policy on Geometric Design Highway & Streets 2018 (Green book)” for National Highway System (NHS) Projects.

The book contains section on functional classification, design controls, horizontal and vertical alignment, cross section elements, bridges and intersections. An important concept in highway design is that every project is unique. The setting and character of the area, the values of the community, the needs of the highway use, and the challenges & opportunities are unique factors that designers must consider with each highway project.
